2020-08-02 Thread Frank Blah
Hm, settings in the https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1160/dash-to-
panel/ also affects the launcher. I will investigate more.

2020-08-02 Thread Frank Blah
Hi, even with the extension disabled, launcher still appears on the
wrong screen. Also, this is somewhat random, it was working for several
days and after reconnecting / disconnecting monitor, this issue is back.
I am attaching a photo. Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878951] Re: [nvidia] Hotplugging HDMI monitor is ignored, needs to be manually re-enabled

Workaround for me was to use external USB-C to HDMI adapter and plug the
USB-C to the computer.

  1. Successfully connect AOC u2879vf external display by attaching HDMI cable
  2. Remove the cable, output switches to the built-in display and external
display goes black

  What is expected:
The external screen should display the image (as in step 1)

  What happened instead:
The system thinks the display is connected (see the xrandr output), but the
external display is still black (no signal). The clumsy workaround is to use
Super+P to switch to "built-in display only" and then back to "joint". After
that, the external monitor comes back.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-07-28 Thread Frank Blah
For me, it doesn't seem to be fixed.

I have installed mutter 3.36.4 and rebooted. When I set my external 4k
AOC display to 200% and the internal monitor to 100%, it works. However,
if I increase the scaling of the internal monitor to 125% in display
settings, I get the both screens turn black and reverts to the previous
settings shortly after.

Please let me know if you need anything more from me.

Status in mutter source package in Focal:

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers source package in Focal:

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

When the nvidia driver is installed, the screen turns off when trying
to set some fractional scaling values like 150%. And it stays off even
after rebooting and logging in again.

And from ssh I can see there's no current mode set anymore (just like
  in bug 1869750):

  $ xrandr
  Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 960 x 600, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 connected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
     1920x1200 59.95 + 59.88

  [ Test case ]

  In a Nvidia system:
  - From g-c-c enable fractional scaling
  - Set all the available fractional scaling values and ensure they work
+ In any case the screen should be turned off

  [ Regression potential ]

Wrong screen size is set and panning might be enabled.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878718] Re: HP ZBook 15 G6 display key (Fn+F1) autorepeats too fast to be usable

2020-06-11 Thread Frank Blah
I would add that "severity" of this issue lies in the confusion. I
believed this feature is actually broken, since the fn key works in
Plasma and there wasn't any indication that there is another shortcut.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878718] Re: HP ZBook 15 G6 display key (Fn+F1) autorepeats too fast to be usable

2020-05-22 Thread Frank Blah
a) When I do a short press, then immediately after a release, the next option
is selected (the dialog does not have time to appear even).
b) When I do a long press, then the options start to circle very quickly until
I release the key (see the screencast)

I think the bug is caused by this: When you do Super+K, you hold Super
and press K repeatedly to switch the options. After you release the
Super key, the option is confirmed. When you use the fn key, there is
just one key, so after releasing, it immediately selects the option.

Title:
HP ZBook 15 G6 display key (Fn+F1) autorepeats too fast to be usable

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Press the functional button for switching output to displays (joint,
mirror, bulit-in, external) 2. The dialog is invoked

  What is expected:
I should be able to select the desired option and confirm it

  What happened instead:
While the functional button for invoking the dialog is pressed, it iterates
extremely fast over the options. I cannot control it. After releasing the key,
the currently selected option is confirmed, which is effectively random.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878951] [NEW] External monitor won't reconnect after reattaching HDMI cable

2020-05-15 Thread Frank Blah
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Successfully connect AOC u2879vf external display by attaching HDMI cable
2. Remove the cable, output switches to the built-in display and external
display goes black
3. Reconnect the HDMI cable again

What is expected:
The external screen should display the image (as in step 1)

What happened instead:
The system thinks the display is connected (see the xrandr output), but the
external display is still black (no signal). The clumsy workaround is to use
Super+P to switch to "built-in display only" and then back to "joint". After
that, the external monitor comes back.

xrandr outputs:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878718] Re: Hotkey for switching display output unusable due to switching to next option immediately after release

2020-05-15 Thread Frank Blah
The Super+P shortcut works! In the report, I used a dedicated fn key
(situated on F1). With Super+P, the selection is confirmed when Super is
released. That probably causes the bug when using the single fn key.

2020-05-12 Thread Frank Blah
I have still the issue on 20.04. However, I had to add `options snd-hda-
intel dmic_detect=0` to `/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf` due to this
another issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem-
osp1/+bug/1864061. What is the next step? Thank you.

Bug description:
  Hello,
on a brand new HPZbook15G6, with a fresh dual boot 19.10 Ubuntu install, I
have no internal mic detected.
The GNOME settings sound entry list is empty. Speaker sound is working
properly.

When hooking a microphone enabled headphone on the jack plug, the
headphones mic is then detected, but there is now no sound output on
  the headphone.

I've been looking for a few similar issues on recent (HP or not)
laptops and found a few similar issues :

  Bug #1523100
  Bug #1837821

so I guess this is a generic alsa or snd-hda-intel issue with newer ALC2xx
hardware.
I already tryed quite a few of the workaroubds/fix available here and there
(e.g. overriding pin with hdajackretask, adding options to snd-hda-intel module
etc. none with success)

I'm available to test/provide any additional needed data.

Hello,
I suffer from the same issue, I also have HP Zbook 15 G6 with Ubuntu 19.10. I
