Though it seems to fix if you restart NetworkManager first before

As a work around, I am using fcitx instead of ibus.

I agree with Dave, but any reason why it would be triggered only by
either Firefox or Thunderbird?
At the time both the nouveau drivers and proprietary drivers had this
problem.
Currently , I have now wiped the machine and installed fresh 15.04, and
the problem has disappeared.

This may not totally be a firefox issue. It might also be related to a
version conflict. This was on an upgrade from 14.10 to 15.04.
The strange thing was that only the mozilla applications
caused/triggered the problem.
It did indeed cause a full freeze. No mouse, and no hotkeys would
respond.
