In Ubuntu Xenial, with the proposed packages (1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.3),
running with the laptop plugged I get:

Note, though that in my case I don't see any error if I launch it in a
terminal. The system halts for a few seconds while loading the file, and
then eog just crashes. It doesn't give me the chance to send an error

The scanner only does the first operation after I plug it in. E.g.
preview a page, or scan it. On the second operation, the mechanical part
does not move anymore (there is no noise whatsoever from the scanner),
and the scan output is pitch black.
The workaround I have found
This issue is still present with my LiDE 30, even using Rolf's the PPA
(1.0.26-git20160103-wily0).

Same issue here with a LiDE 30, in all the ports in my system (USB 2.0
and 3.0).
