Bug description:
  [Changes:]

  1. The Appearance-panel in gnome-control-center uses 2 GtkBox to
center the Windows color one at the start and one at end. The problem
in behavior arises when the window is resized one of the
GtkFlowBoxChild moves to next line even though there is plenty of
space in the current line or when the Window is maximized. Specially
  noticed with lower-resolution dispalys

With the use of HdyPrefrencesPage and HdyPrefrencesGroup, the Window
colors section stays fixed even when the window is resized or
  maximized.

  2. The Appearance-panel has extra border around the Page,
  HdyPrefrencesPage removes the extra-border

  3. The Window colors section uses thumbnails that do not resemble with
current Yaru's look offered in 21.10 and have purple-gradient color as
  the background.

With the use of style=content-view and icon-dropshadow the thumbnails
stand out better in the absence of purple gardient background.

  4. The Window colors section has orange as the color for the selected
GtkFlowBoxChild, With the use of margin as 2px the selected
  GtkFlowBoxChild has a 2px orange-color border.

  5. The Dock-section makes use of rounded corners around GtkListBox by using

Title:
[FFe] improve the appearance-page in gnome-control-center

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

  5. The Dock-section makes use of rounded corners around GtkListBox by using
style=content

  6. The Dock-section makes use of HdyActionRow to replace the use of
  GtkGrid, GtkLabel, GtkListBoxRow.

Hi just an update to the patch situation, Jeremy Soller of Pop!_OS was
not able to get his salsa.debian.org account approved so instead I'll be
proposing merge-request. Also removed the impish tag

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1943857] Re: use downstream pop!_os patch for global theme switching

2021-09-21 Thread Muqtadir
Hi @seb128 and @vanvugt,

> I don't have the power to make it happen but would recommend as a first step
> you should create a formal merge request to the ubuntu/master branch here:
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-shell/-/tree/ubuntu/master

I've asked the Pop!_OS maintainers of gnome-shell to upstream their
patch on their github issue-tracker and one of the maintainer replied
that he will do so (see: https://github.com/pop-os/gnome-
shell/issues/77).

>The description of the change and why it's needed is not really clear
there, you are going to need to provide more details if you want to see
the changes considered, also please use a merge request as pointed out
by Daniel

Sorry for being vague about the reasoning and description of the issue

*[Reason]
The Appearance-panel in gnome-control-center only switches GTK themes but not
GNOME-Shell theme. The possibility of also switching the GNOME-Shell was
mentioned in the sprint session of Yaru development during ubuntu 20.04 release
cycle. (quoting from the blogpost New Ubuntu Theme in Development for 20.04:
"In future, we would also like these settings to switch the theme for shell
elements, such as the top bar and notification bubbles. Achieving this without
requiring a logout each time will require additional work in GNOME Shell –
something we are investigating" see:
https://ubuntu.com/blog/new-ubuntu-theme-in-development-for-20-04)

[Impact]
Currently Yaru(light theme) is default for GTK and Yaru-dark(dark theme) is
default for GNOME-Shell theme. This change would make Yaru(light theme) the
default for both GTK and GNOME-Shell and give the desktop users the ability to
Fully switch between both Light and Dark themes from Appearance panel out of
the box without the need of using user-themes-gnome-shell-extension.

[Relevant Github discussion:]
see this discussion on Yaru's github discussions for more details:
https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/discussions/2677

[Relevant Yaru PR:]
see PR:https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/2945

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1907844] [NEW] [SRU] Backport icon-changes from groovy to focal

2020-12-11 Thread Muqtadir
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * focal users will gain the addition and refinement of more mimetype-
icons, scalable-icons, devices-icons that were previously not present

* will make it consistent with the icons present in gtk-common-themes
snap

 * Backporting them to focal would greatly increase the differentiation
of the file types that are existent for the average user

[Test Case]

 * open files and have a look at archive-based files (ex: gzip,7z),
virtual-box based files, dart, docker files, some files use generic
mimetype-icons and some scalable icons are not consistent and missing

 * install yaru from ubuntu/groovy branch and github and open files
again to see the refinement to the already existing mimetype and
inclusion of more mimetype-icons and scalable icons

[Other-info]

* will be followed with changes made to ubuntu/focal branch on github

** Affects: yaru-theme (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
