[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967204] [NEW] "help" app (yelp) just displays a blank window with "Ubuntu Desktop Guide" title on rpi
Public bug reported: I'm using the jammy beta (20220329) image running on an rpi4 8GB clicking on the "help" app in the dock launches a window with the title "Ubuntu Desktop Guide". The icons for forward/back, bookmarks, search, etc. are all visible at the top of the window, but everything else in the window is just a blank white area. On amd64, however, it seems to work fine. I also noticed that if I move the mouse around through the area, the pointer sometimes changes, and if I hover there for a second, a tooltip comes up with things like "Start applications" or "Visual overview of Gnome". I can click on these and it seems to take me forward to something, because the back icon is no longer greyed out, but I still can't see any content in the window. On a laptop with intel wifi card, we installed a fresh image (see above) and network-manager snap or deb as appropriate. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1360368] [NEW] upowerd health check failures
Public bug reported: We ran baselines of many processes on an idle nexus4 using health-check for the last trusty image, and some of those have regressed since then. These could be real regressions, or they could be something that's expected due to changes that happened since that image. We need someone to investigate these and report whether it requires a fix, or whether the thresholds need to be adjusted, and why. For upowerd, we see quite a lot more file IO and syncs than it did in trusty. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1231091] [NEW] Screenreader starts, but quits working in live session on install
Public bug reported: Image: 20130925 I started the image and let it boot to the gui selector for live session or install only. When the drum sound played, I pressed ctrl-s to start the screen reader and heard the familiar welcome to orca sound, and it read the options to me. From there, I started the live session, and went into the installer, but orca would not read any of the screens. I also started a terminal window and noticed that it says window when I move the mouse over the unity launcher icon, and unity dash when I click on it, but nothing in the terminal is read to me either. I also started a terminal window and noticed that it says window when I move the mouse over the unity launcher icon, and unity dash when I click on it, but nothing in the terminal is read to me either. So I don't think this is limited to just ubiquity. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1229383] [NEW] Gray bars at top of screen when selecting live/install mode
Public bug reported: I've seen this on both a Dell laptop, and in virtualbox so far. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1229416] [NEW] Screenreader does not come up on install
Public bug reported: Image: 20130923.1 On the amd64 install, I'm starting from the usb stick and trying to activate the screenreader when it gets to the screen to choose between live session and install. Normally there is some audio of drums that plays at this point, but I never hear it. I can normally activate the screen reader by pressing ctrl-s at this screen, and would expect to hear welcome to orca, but that doesn't seem to do anything. After starting the live session, I still don't hear any evidence of the screen reader, but if I go out to a terminal and check ps, I see that it appears to be running. I can hear other audio just fine, for example, by doing the test sounds from the audio control. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1177632] Re: gnome-screensaver causes jump in compiz events
The point of the testing is to use eventstat to find things causing lots of wakeups, which could have an impact on power consumption and battery life. So working around the bug would kind of defeat the purpose of testing. In this case, it's running kvm so it isn't a real video card. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1177632 Title: gnome-screensaver causes jump in compiz events Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have some automated tests that run eventstat to track the average events/second for all running processes. If you look at https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/eventstat-raring-desktop-amd64 -install-idle-vm/95/artifact/eventstat.csv you will see that on line 8, the events/second for compiz jumps dramatically. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1124230] [NEW] Language selector comes up after 12.04.2 rc candidate installation in english
Public bug reported: After installing the 20120213.1 alternate image in english, I log in and see the language selector come up telling me I have incomplete language support. I installed in english, with the system connected to the internet during the install. From the dialog that comes up, it seems to indicate that English (United States) and English are present, just not the ones for UK, Australia, or Canada, which is what I would expect so I'm not sure what it thinks is missing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1084064] Re: Can not ssh to raring VM's using hostname
ignore the .local stuff, that's just avahi madness and doesn't seem to be related. Here's what I'm seeing locally when I try this: I'm noticing from the dnsmasq server that in the leases file, if I start a quantal vm I see the hostname. I also see the hostname pop up in the syslog. If I start up a raring vm though, I don't see the hostname ever come across. I went to a raring vm and ran dhclient by hand, and everything worked. The hostname was sent with the dhcp request, and I could access the system by sshing or pinging the hostname alone. Running dhcpclient alone uses the default config under /etc though. With NetworkManager in the picture though, a different config file is used: $ ps -ef |grep dhclient root 733 693 0 21:44 ?00:00:00 /sbin/dhclient -d -4 -sf /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action -pf /run/sendsigs.omit.d/network-manager.dhclient-eth0.pid -lf /var/lib/dhclient/dhclient-0f1c7278-f6f0-4447-a3a7-40c0c7c300d6-eth0.lease -cf /var/run/nm-dhclient-eth0.conf eth0 $ cat /var/run/nm-dhclient-eth0.conf # Created by NetworkManager option rfc3442-classless-static-routes code 121 = array of unsigned integer 8; option ms-classless-static-routes code 249 = array of unsigned integer 8; option wpad code 252 = string; also request rfc3442-classless-static-routes; also request ms-classless-static-routes; also request wpad; also request ntp-servers; If I look another system I have, I see the addition of this line in that file: send host-name myhostname; # added by NetworkManager So it looks like nm is generating this file without putting the line in to send the hostname. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1084064 Title: Can not ssh to raring VM's using hostname Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: It is impossible to ssh to a raring desktop vm using the hostname except the ip. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1056225] [NEW] Amazon videos don't play
Public bug reported: On quantal beta2 (20120925) I installed 32bit using wubi and tried to launch a video from the video lens after installing flashplayer. When it tries to play the movie, I get an error saying: Player Update An error occurred and your player could not be updated. This is likely because your Flash Player or Browser needs to be updated. This update is required to play back this video. (screenshot attached) I've also tested this on a 64bit install that was once working, and now is not. It seems that maybe amazon updated something that requires a newer version of flash than we currently have?
