[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1918619] Re: Kind of slowly refresh

2021-03-11 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Actually there is more, as it's shown on this other video. The same
problem happens when “there is a display event”…? Like when my mouse go
over an element, even if I can't click on it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1918619/+attachment/5475721/+files/VID_20210311_105952.mp4

** Description changed:

I use to press Alt+Tab to switch between windows (or frames, whatever)
and I noticed today that when I switch to another window the up bar
  blinks.

I already had a display problem once, so I knew it was better with a
  external video.
+
+ EDIT: I remember having this problem a year ago perhaps, and it
+ disappear if I reboot my computer.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1910938] Re: Text is missing from shell panel and menus

2021-02-03 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Good to know, thanks. I'll do that if it happens again, or for any other
bug actually.

I don't see any 'Extensions' app (and I don't remember installing any
extension) but i can execute 'gnome-extensions list' (same result without
'--enabled' option):
me@myComputer:~$ gnome-extensions list --enabled
desktop-icons@csoriano
ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com

Do I have to do something once they are disabled?

I don't see the hours, but i see the icons like Firefox actually opened, my
battery etc. and notifications are empty (just the "!" icon).
Text normally displayed when mouse-hover the applications icons is not
displayed, when Ubuntu ask for my password the frame display only 3 or 4
characters, when i put the computer in standby and reopen it doesn't change
anything, and the bullets of my password aren't displayed when i login.
The text normally displayed on the menus aren't displayed too, same for the
application menu (when hitting the bottom left corner button) and icons of
applications (like Discord options on the top right of the screen).
The only text from xorg that is displayed (if it's from xorg…) is the
window's title (like "#Room - Discord" for Discord application, or
"me@computer: ~/" above the terminal).
What is left works : Firefox can display text, and text is displayed in
settings for example.
+
+ P.S: a reboot solved the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887514] Re: Some desktop files don't open with double click or Enter

2020-07-16 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Some precisions :
the mount was a NTFS external hard drive
and the remaining issue is the bug report #1887816.

Title:
Some desktop files don't open with double click or Enter

Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have two folders visible in my desktop but not in the folder desktop
(personal folder and trash), they were there when I installed Ubuntu.
Some days ago I've added two .txt files on the desktop folder.

Theses two files don't open when I double click, select and press
Enter, or right click and select "open". To open them from the
desktop, I have to right click, select "open with another
application", then it opens a window and I select my program.

After doing it two times and execute ubuntu-bug, select "open with..."
don't open anymore the window but opens directly the file with the
program I've selected before (it acts like "open").

To pinpoint the problem, I've copied two new .txt files, one with
nautilus and one with right click on the desktop. Theses new files
open normally, with double click or select and Enter.

So the two other files are kind of locked...

I am not sure if the problem comes from xdg-desktop-portal package,
but I could not find a "better" package...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887816] [NEW] Right click "open with" opens directly without asking for a program

2020-07-16 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Public bug reported:

I copied .txt files to my desktop folder (from NTFS external disk) and tried to
open them but they were with right 777 (rwxrwxrwx) so press Enter (etc.) try to
execute and not open the file with an editing program.
Then I rote a bug report (#1887514), understood my problem and changed the
rights of the files.

But there is still a problem.

When I was trying to identify the problem, I tried "open with" on the
right click menu. It worked (a window is opened and ask witch program I
want to use). And after reporting the "bug" (that wasn't a bug) the
option "open with" didn't opened anymore the window to choose a program.
It opens directly as if I've selected "open".

It do the same to every new files I add to the desktop, and I already
have rebooted my computer (it was some days ago).

I am not sure if the package I've selected is the right one for this problem, I
don't know a lot about how Ubuntu is structured (and I don't know where I can
find precise information).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887514] Re: Some desktop files don't open with double click or Enter

2020-07-14 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
I found a way to "solve" my problem :
when I copied my .txt files from my external hard drive, the rights of files
was 777 (rwxrwxrwx), and when I changed it to 664 (rw-rw-r--) it solved my
problem. Now I can open files from the desktop by double click, select and
Enter, or right click and "open".

There is still a problem with the menu option "open with..." : it opens
directly with the default program without asking witch program I want to
use.

There is still some files that are not opened (those with rights 777
(rwxrwxrwx), so I leave the subject as it is.
