Also just started seeing this after updating from Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 to
Ubuntu 18.04. The only relevant thing I can think of, is that I may have
changed the default login manager to GDM. Otherwise, can't think of
anything that might have triggered this.

It sounds like there could be support for the W3C push API in the future. This
would have a much better chance of getting email servers to support push
notifications. This would allow push notifications to be supported cross
platform, including both mobile devices and desktop browsers.
Just wanted to be sure that this was supported in wily. I wasn't
expecting a backport. Thanks for the confirmation.

Desktop notifications not supported
Just saw that libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 in wily is 2.8.4, so maybe this is
already fixed in wily. If not, it should be checked that epiphany is
using this package and not another older version, and that the package
was built with libnotify support.

Public bug reported:
Epiphany doesn't support desktop notifications on current Ubuntu
releases. This requires libwebkitgtk 2.8 with libnotify support.
Currently Ubuntu appears to only ship with 2.4, so this package will
need updating.

I can blank the screen using the command xset dpms force off, and it
doesn't turn back on. Can't it just run that when the lid is closed?

This bug should be of high importance. I've just been completely locked
out of my system because my account has no password, meaning sudo/gksu
doesn't work. Which of course means I can't re-enable the password
without hacking it with a LiveCD.
This option should allow the user account to login
Ah, sorry, done a little more testing. It stays off indefinitely
(without input) if the lid is open. But, if I run it after closing the
lid, it still wakes randomly. This means that it must be receiving some
imaginary input when the lid is closed to wake it.
My biggest problem is that some

I can also confirm that just changing the name attribute in
/usr/share/doc/python3.2/html/python3.2.devhelp.gz fixes this problem.
Just changing it from Python to Python3 is enough, which I've done
in the above patch.

I have found a gnome-shell extension which adds a menu item to blank the
screen.
This seems to work perfectly, perhaps the code used in there can be used
when the laptop lid is closed? I don't see why a quick extension can do
this better than the main system.
I have noticed this problem also, since I got my laptop back on Ubuntu
10.10, and it is still a problem on 11.10. The only difference is I am
not giving it any input, it wakes up on it's own.
I remember back in 10.10, with a friend, we tried to debug the problem.
We first looked at some logs,
