Discovered the problem: Copying the file /usr/lib/sane/libsane-hpaio.so.1 from the precise 12.04 installation to the quantal 12.10 installation fixes the problem. This file is part of the libsane-hpaio package. If I can figure out how to change the bug report, I will do so. ** Project changed:
