It is an important bug -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584339 Title: Old SiS video needs v86d for Lucid Plymouth Status in GetDeb Software Portal: Invalid Status in “xserver-xorg-video-sis” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The bug I was having with Lucid is best described at http://idyllictux.wordpress.com/ A black screen persists for most of boot-up, showing no progress; then an ugly blast of colored lines followed by a Plymouth screen for a second or two before going to a login screen. What's expected is to see the Plymouth screen and a progression of dots as things proceed. My elderly laptop has the following video: lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter My kernel is as follows: cat /proc/version Linux version 2.6.32-22-generic (buildd@rothera) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010 I had earlier solved a different Plymouth problem, a nasty hangup at fsck, by upgrading mountall, which now is: mountall --version mountall 2.15 Copyright (C) 2010 Canonical Ltd. The blackscreen at the first part of Plymouth was finally solved simply by using synaptic to install the v86d package. No other tweaks were necessary to get past the black screen phenomenon and see the progression of dots as things proceed. This may have brought boot- up down to 56 seconds from 60 as well. Incidentally, the synaptic install does its own initramfs revision to incorporate v86d. In my case I don't get vesafb or uvesafb, but at least the black screen is gone. It is an important bug -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281454 Title: Laptop: external monitor not supported with SiS card Status in “xserver-xorg-video-sis” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xorg Hi, here's my bug: I have a laptop with sis card, external monitor is connected. I installed 8.10 beta from live CD, I did clean install. On 8.04 I used to switch screen with fn+F12, so the laptop screen was black and I was using the external one. Now I have two problems: 1. After pressing fn+F12 the desktop goes crazy on both monitors (everything is rugged or cut or something :) ). 2. Screen resolution is limited to 960x600@60kHz. Formerly I was able to use 1024x768 (@75kHz, as far as I remember). I can still use it if I disconnect the external monitor and reboot. After manual change of driver in xorg.conf to vesa the switch display shortcut on keyboard works well, but my resolution is still limited to 800x600. grandr detects only one screen, and the system panel screen resolution doesn't allow me to check the mirror screen box (I'm not sure but I think it should do what I want to) - it doesn't save it with checked status. My xorg.conf is now in the default state (almost empty), and here's my lspci report for graphic card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter --- Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Lsusb: Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 09da:0080 A4 Tech Co., Ltd Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 13b1:0020 Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g Adapter [ralink rt73] Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: DIXONSXP DIXONSXP Package: xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.10.2-2 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcCmdLine: root=UUID=ad728076-9eff-4aee-9e27-271cd6904bdf ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=pl_PL.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-23.37-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Tags: lucid lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.32-23-generic i686 UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare dmi.bios.date: 09/19/2005 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 080011 dmi.board.name: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.vendor: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr080011:bd09/19/2005:svnDIXONSXP:pnDIXONSXP:pvr1.0:rvnTobefilledbyO.E.M.:rnTobefilledbyO.E.M.:rvr1.0:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct3:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: DIXONSXP dmi.product.version: 1.0 dmi.sys.vendor: DIXONSXP system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-23-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-sis/+bug/281454/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
