It seems if you already have the mozilla lightning extension install TB
disables it but then does not see the xul version (6.2.2.1) if it is
installed. Removing the mozilla version (using the button on the TB
addons page) and restarting then finds the xul version and it then
seems to function
@Ryan It is still installed - it was working fine before latest update
to Thunderbird

I'll inform you that the newer update Thunderbird 24.1.0 with Lightning
2.6.2 works on my Ubuntu 10.04 again. It appears the issue has been fixed. I
recommend giving it a try.
