[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1981881] Re: Firefox snap broken in Guest Account

2022-08-02 Thread martinr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1593407 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1593407

These aren't the droids you are looking for.

Marking it as a duplicate of a 6 year old bug in 16.04 Xenial is like saying:
WILL NEVER FIX.
Especially while in Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial this problem didn't exist at all.
Now that 16.04 is retired users can't circumvent this problem any more.

Maybe snap is not the way to go when this problem can't be solved, but
all bridges seem to have been burned. Existing functionality was
sacrificed because no-one seems to be able to fix it.

Please stop your Jedi mind trick to take focus off this very actual bug.

I'm still experiencing this problem in 22.04. Are there any updates on when it

Guest accounts are very useful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742912] Re: Please confine guest sessions again

2022-07-28 Thread martinr
Please be aware when configuring app-armor of the Firefox snap, that breaks the
guest-account experience in Xubuntu 22.04 LTS with Firefox version: 102.0.1
(64-bit), Mozilla Firefox Snap for Ubuntu canonical-002-1.0.
See Bug #1981881 .

Title:
  Please confine guest sessions again

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a continuation of LP: #1663157 where as a workaround for the
guest session not being confined the session got disabled. This bug
tracks the fix for proper confinement.

  Original bug report text:

Processes launched under a lightdm guest session are not confined by the
/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session AppArmor profile in Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu
17.04, and Ubuntu Artful (current dev release). The processes are unconfined.

The simple test case is to log into a guest session, launch a terminal
with ctrl-alt-t, and run the following command:

   $ cat /proc/self/attr/current

Expected output, as seen in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, is:

   /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session (enforce)

Running the command inside of an Ubuntu 16.10 and newer guest session
  results in:

   unconfined

I think that this is a bug, since all configurations panels, and

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 250517] Re: gvfs performs slowly on bulk sftp transfers

2012-10-04 Thread martinr
I also ran into the same problem on LUbuntu 10.04, which increases big file
transfers times with hours.

Could it be that sftp from Nautilus selects a different cipher for its
encryption?
Presumably des (the default protocol 1 cipher), judging from the speed drop
compared to plain sftp?

For full details see this posting:

Tested on a low-latency 100Mb fibre link. scp/sftp console clients are able
to hit the line speed of around 10MB/s. Copying via Nautilus is almost 10 times
slower, at about 1.6MB/s.
This seems to be because it does not batch up writes, but waits for a reply
for each.
