[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1650927] Re: accessing local ethernet is possible, accessing internet is not possible (Ubuntu MATE 17.04, ppc)

2017-04-14 Thread mikewhatever
Reproducible on MATE 17.04 amd64, also reported by others:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1681597
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1682499

Suggested workaround is to "put 'DNSSEC=off' in
/etc/systemd/resolved.conf".

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Same problem in 14.04. I can copy files with cp, but Nautilus claims
that it's read only.

Title:
Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

The permisions on the removable drive are set correctly:

A file can be copied to the USB stick using the cp command for
  example.

  sergio@shana:~/Trash$ cd /media/DESIGNPLUS
  sergio@shana:/media/DESIGNPLUS$ ls -lah

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
destination is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1424119] Re: Edit Connections...now insensitive by default in network manager's menu

2015-03-19 Thread mikewhatever
Thanks for the fix. Just tested the following from the proposed repo:
network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.4.2
network-manager-gnome 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.5

Edit connctions is clickable again after reloading (service network-
manager stop/start), and also after rebooting.

I've been able to workaround the crackling noise the microphone was
recording by removing pulseaudio.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2012-10-21 Thread mikewhatever
I've been tesing Unity for several days, with 12.04, Nvidia 295.40, and
can also attest that the original problem is not present, and no
segfaults either.

Hardware:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G72M
[GeForce Go 7400] [10de:01d8] (rev a1)

Had to disable the blacklisting first by adding UNITY_FORCE_START=1 to
/etc/environment.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 503577] Re: g-p-m brightness not applied anymore after rebooting

2012-09-28 Thread mikewhatever
Confirmed on Precise with kernel 3.2-31-generic. Brightness keys don't
change screen brightness, even after adding the 'acpi_backlight' option.
I can still manage by writing 1-7 to
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1056795] Re: Internal mic doesn't work on Dell mini 1010.

2012-09-26 Thread mikewhatever
The 'options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-amic' seems to be a workaround.
The internal mic is now detected and works, but there is still some
static noise when speaking, thought not durring pauses.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 23267] Re: Default Hebrew fonts in Firefox are unreadable, ugly

2012-07-23 Thread mikewhatever
Confirmed! This bug has been present in all versions of Ubuntu and
Firefox, as far as I can remember. I've been changing serif to DejaVu
Sans to work around it.

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: Invalid = Confirmed

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “firefox-3.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “xulrunner-1.9” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The default Hebrew fonts in firefox are unreadable and ugly,
The default can be easily changed. suggestion:
using the Hebrew font package Culmus, already in ubuntu,

  firefox settings:

  Proportional: Sans Serif Size(pixels) 16
  Serif : FreeSans
  Sans-serif : FreeSans
  Monospace : Monospace Size(pixels) 12

Those values are based on feedback from a local (and the main) LUG
  www.whatsup.org.il

  Thanks in advance!
(as a side note: most of the israeli users of FOSS seems to prefer english UI
-
  changing the values only for
the locale will be - in ,my opinion - insufficient)
