Title:
[P53G, VIA VT1708B 8-Ch, Green Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The only modification that I made after I report this bug is in the
/etc/default/grub file, I just added in GRUB_CMDLINE_DEFAULT, the
"pci=use_cms" option, seemed to work for a few reboots but after some
reboots I have no sound in random boots, If I have sound is in poor
quality, too quietly. but in the normal cases (with no "pci=use_cms")
  the sound behaves the same.

I'm use to make this in every Ubuntu boot, as I have other versions of
  Ubuntu (10.04 64 and 32 bit)

In terminal I write: 'sudo alsa force-reload' If everything goes
  fine I have this message:

'Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-via82xx snd-ac97-codec
snd-mpu401-uart snd-seq-midi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-rawmidi
snd-seq-device snd-hda-codec-via snd-hda-intel snd-hda-codec snd-hwdep snd-pcm
snd-timer snd-page-alloc (failed: modules still loaded: snd-hda-codec-via
snd-hda-intel snd-hda-codec snd-hwdep snd-pcm snd-timer snd-page-alloc).
Loading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-via82xx snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart

snd-hda-codec-via snd-hda-intel snd-hda-codec snd-hwdep snd-pcm snd-timer
snd-page-alloc.'

In most exceptional cases, when everything goes fine I got this:

'Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-via82xx snd-ac97-codec
snd-mpu401-uart snd-seq-midi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-rawmidi

snd-hda-codec-via snd-hda-intel snd-hda-codec snd-hwdep snd-pcm snd-timer
snd-page-alloc.'

Then I have sound working, sometimes perfect, sometimes not, the most
of the times when I run 'alsamixer' The mixer is able to be loaded,
the same happens with amixer, sometimes not, I don't have a mixer but
  the sound is working.

When It goes bad, I have the message:

'Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-hda-codec-via snd-hda-intel
  snd-hda-codec snd-hwdep snd-pcm snd-timer snd-page-alloc (cursor
  blinking)'

and the process keeps on and on and on, and never finishes to unload
and reload the alsa modules, it can be like an hour to be unloading
  the modules but never finishes.

  Additional Info:

The system detects my hardware with no problem:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 892414] Re: [P53G, VIA VT1708B 8-Ch, Green Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

2015-06-09 Thread Bjorn Helgaas
Hi JoseLuisTriana,

1) pci=use_crs shouldn't make a difference on your system because we
enable pci=use_crs automatically on systems with BIOS date of 2008 or
newer, and yours is 02/21/2008

2) Re comment #4, the kernel should be able to configure devices even if
the BIOS didn't set it up correctly.

3) I don't know anything about the spurious responses or audio quality
issues, sorry. I just wanted to remove pci=use_crs from the equation
so it doesn't confuse things.
