I have the same USB audio hardware as the OP. The kernel’s input
subsystem seems to be wrongly detecting the device as a USB human
interface device:
[2.256727] usb 2-1.7.2: New USB device found, idVendor=08bb, idProduct=2902
[2.256729] usb 2-1.7.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1,
I also have this problem. Upgraded the kernel to 3.12.0rc1 from the
kernel PPA (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc1-saucy/) and USB sound card stopped working...
commenting out the 'snd-usb-audio index=-2' fixed the problem.
For reference lsusb gives

is there any specific reason for you to disable the on board sound card
?
index=-2 is a specific option to force the card to not loaded as card 0
e.g. intel8x0-modem have to loaded after snd-intel8x0
[42181.620791] usb 1-1.1.2: Product: USB Audio DAC
[42181.620792] usb 1-1.1.2:
Unsure if this makes a difference but I commented out the alsa options
for usb_snd_audio e.g. from [options snd-usb-audio index=-2 to #options
snd-usb-audio index=-2 ] and the sound now works. I think the index
options have changed for the alsa driver in the kernel 3.12. Sound
seems to be
you have to assign index=0 to usb audio and index=1 to your onboard
sound card if you want to your usb audio assign to card 0
