While I tend to agree with you for applications, those filters are
useful for system components, you don't want to have 3 system settings
identic entries under e.g GNOME because KDE and XFCE happen to be
installed on the machine and each has its system settings UI (just as
an example)

Hi there. Thank you for your response. I'll surely list this upstream,
as I do indeed consider this to be a really, really annoying bug that is
easily fixable. Realistically speaking, having a line like OnlyShowIn
does nothing except inhibit users from utilizing this software on other
desktop
