The lsusb listing shows that your dongle is supported by the option driver in kernel 3.13 which Ubuntu 14.04 is built on. The problem is most likely a usb controller driver error, can you please test on a USB 2.0 port or with a USB 2.0 hub connected between dongle and your computers USB 3.0 port.
