Thanks for compiling all this information. There's a couple of pieces
missing though.
This bug doesn't happen as far as I know with vanilla Gtk. It happens
when the Unity Gtk extensions (dbusmenu and overlay scrollbar) are
loaded. They are Gtk plugins and one or both of them open
If you are experiencing the bug with xfce4-power-manager, please:
1. Test the patch for it: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power-
manager/commit/?id=216a5b750ccbe9fda98e0456a607230cd8c52303.
2. Leave a comment about if it worked for you in
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11044.
It seems to me that bug #1254881 (
xfce session starts multiple instances of xfce4-power-manager and
xfce4-volumed) is another duplicate, so I've marked it as such. I might be
wrong though.

Since the work-around for the bug #1254881 you just mentioned is to run
xfce4-power-manager with the --no-daemon argument, it's almost sure it's
a duplicate.

Thanks for the triaging effort! As far as I know xfce4-volumed-pulse has
a fix committed already though I'll let mrpouit confirm. The ALSA
xfce4-volumed never had the issue.
