I have the same problem on Linux Mint MATE 18.3 Sylvia (Ubuntu 16.04)
with LibreOffice 1:6.1.3~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from PPA.

Same problem on ubuntu 15.04 64 bit up to date with libre office
Version: 4.4.6.3, Build ID: 40m0 (Build:3), Locale : fr_FR.UTF-8.
My document is a fresh one and behavior is exactly the same (some char
in title disappear).
Zooming in/ou/ editing the title make the missing characters back for a

better.
To help provide evidence of root cause, could you please advise if this
is still an issue with one of the 5.x based PPAs via
