I can confirm that using java 8 (openjdk) on 15.10 fixes rendering
problems in skype. However one minor corruption occurs in IntelliJ IDEA
itself when running on java 8 (openjdk) (see screen-shot).
After upgrade to 16.04 as of 8 Dec 2015, none of java versions cause any
corruption in skype,
This is not 100% tested, but i just found out, that Skype windows are not
corrupted, when i launch my Java app with openjdk-8.
I experienced the problems running Netbeans and openjdk-7.
So i installed the packages "openjdk-8-jdk openjdk-8-jre openjdk-8-jre-
headless", changed my Netbeans config
Same problem here for me in Ubuntu 14.04. When I use PyCharm (Java based
IDE), Skype and QGIS both appear completely corrupted. Text is garbled
and the windows don't redraw properly. Closing PyCharm fixes the
problem.

I can confirm the relation to Java based apps. I'm back on Ubuntu
(default) session and i still experience this problem when Netbeans 8
(Java based) is opened. After i close Netbeans, Skype windows are not
corrupted anymore.

I haven't got to test the latest daily build yet (no free USB stick around at
the moment), but I've noticed quite strange dependency:
Once window corruption problems occur in skype or spotify, they are solved
immediately if I close IntelliJ IDEA (a java-based app).
I cannot say yet if
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) , thanks for the info, will do.
Currently, this is fixed for me on Ubuntu (default) session.

I had this problem on Ubuntu and Gnome Flashback session manager,
switching to Gnome Shell (Gnome Classic) fixes this for me. Can anyone
confirm?

Alex N., it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu via a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Unfortunately, I was too fast to report success - corruption still
occurs:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A15
05/19/2015
Corruption looks like parts of skype window are not redrawn properly. I've
attached another example screen-shot.
