2015-10-25 Thread socketbind
This issue might be related to the following one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1502155

I will try the fix suggested by tiwai which disables the power_save_node
option mentioned in the patch.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1509703] Re: [Latitude E5440, Realtek ALC3226] Loud, single crackle sound when the login screen appears or resuming from suspend

2015-10-25 Thread socketbind
Tiwai's suggestion is the following:
"OK, could you try to add the following to /lib/firmware/alsa/test

[codec]
0x10ec0292 0x17aa5036 0
[hint]
power_save_node = 0

... and add patch module option to snd-hda-intel, e.g. put the following
in /etc/modprobe.d/50-hda.conf:

options snd-hda-intel patch=,alsa/test

(Note that the comma after "patch=" is no typo but intentional, meaning
to skip the first object.)"

The original suggestion does not fix the issue but after changing the
subsystem id 0x17aa5036 to 0x102805de the crackle is gone and only a
barely audible pop is heard (much less startling than the crackle).

There are no problems with sound quality after the crackle is heard but
it can be reliably reproduced on every startup or resume from suspend.
