There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. Thank you for the update. Good to know that this bug cannot be exploited. Now with firefox 44, the bug behaviour has worsened, now firefox opens two windows or tabs, closes them and then opens a new window with an empty tab. When firefox is started with a link, the link may be opened the first time, then closed as above and a new empty window is opened, thus as a result the link is not shown.
