I have three suggestions: 1) Remove them from code entirely. I has worked perfectly without them for ages. 2) Make an option to disable them completely. 3) Concentrate all overlay buttons to a block and place it at bottom center (where rotation are now) to make them more user friendly; it's annoying to have to move the mouse across the entire screen to navigate forth/back. But this is just an extra tip, because I basically believe that this feature should be killed all together. What I really used to like about EOG was its simplicity. It shows me my image and nothing more! Nobody wants clutter -- especially clutter they cannot disable.
