Had this same problem on Acer Spin 1, with Intel Celeron CPU and Intel
HD Graphics 500 (Broxton). Removing iio-sensor-proxy fixed it perfectly!
Thank you!

It looks like the fix went into systemd version 240, so it should be
fixed in Ubuntu 19.04 now if you update your system...

Hi sir I'm not sure about any of that, but if you click the drop down
button in the top right then click the button between the
wrench/screwdriver and the lock button and that middle button is the one
that stops the obnoxious screen rotation.

Problem in Elitebook 840 g2 solved by removing/purging iio sensor
package after the first installation (Debian) updated to the testing
version . The problem affected screen and touchpad/mouse. It seems to me
that it is a unnecessary package for laptop with no position sensors is
it not?

Hey all, there is so much technical jargon here and on that github page.
I have an HP Pavilion so I'm trying to remove that iio sensor-proxy, but
I'm a bit confused. Where should I be looking on that github page for
directions to remove the iio sensor-proxy? Thanks!

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.

I am reassigning this bug to the kernel since that's usually who the
iio-sensor-proxy developer blames for issues like this.
You can try filing an issue with iio-sensor-proxy though.

If you open the system status menu in the far right of the top bar,
Unsure if same bug. two displays - built in and external on hp laptop;
17.10. Built in display rotates after a few mins being logged in - by
180 degrees.

Everytime I reboot, it rotates anticlockwise 90 and sometimes randomly it
switches to inverted screen. I tried using xandr to correct the rotation,
but nothing worked.

In continuing to determine issue, it seems that when waking from
suspend, or logging in from power up, the orientation rotates clockwise
90*. I have had 'xrandr -o 0' orient to the right, the bottom, and the
left and back to the top of the screen after closing the lid, letting it
suspend itself,
