The machine I was using when this bug was originally found had a failed hard
drive.
new hard and new install of xubuntu. its using all the default repositories the
comes with xubuntu.
it also has a google ppa for chrome install.

I can confirm the last batch of libreoffice (1:5.4.5-0ubuntu0.17.10.4)
fixes concerning apparmor fixed the many warnings mentioned in my logs.
