Public bug reported: upgrading 14.04 to 16.04 ran a test run on similar machine yesterday all went OK
couldn't upgrade using "upgrade-manager -d" left off the "-d" and it started. two and one half hours later it finished with errors. "updmap.sys failed" send file "/tmp/updmap-ZfhrdVK2" with report. That file doesn't exist. also "check for files with extensions dpkg-dist and .ucf-dist". Grub updates reported lots of "unsupported" stuff. Finshed upgrade with a window menu with option in red with an "OK" hit return. didn't restart, checked firefox and it worked so I tried to restart from toolbar. Didn't work, used shutdown from same menu, didn't work. Shortcut "ALT+F12" did but took a long time. the locate report is below: To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>". See "man sudo_root" for details. joe@lenovo:~$ sudo updatedb [sudo] password for joe: joe@lenovo:~$ locate -b dpkg-dist /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.dpkg-dist /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf.dpkg-dist /etc/default/rcS.dpkg-dist /usr/bin/dpkg-distaddfile /usr/share/man/de/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/es/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/fr/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/it/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/ja/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/pl/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz /usr/share/man/sv/man1/dpkg-distaddfile.1.gz joe@lenovo:~$ locate -b .ucf-dist /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades.ucf-dist /etc/default/grub.ucf-dist /etc/samba/smb.conf.ucf-dist joe@lenovo:~$ the "detail" read: Device name lenovo Memory 3.1 GiB Processor AMD A8-6500B APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics x 4 Graphics AMD ARUBA (DRM 2.43.0 / 4.4.0-131-generic, LLVM 6.0.0 OStype 64-bit Disk 726.6 GB Release is: Description: Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS Release: 16.04 Would be really nice is I could recover - this is my main machine!
