Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * A recent OpenJDK update changes the value of the "java.vendor"
property from "Oracle Corporation" to "Private Build". This breaks the
code in LibreOffice that detects an installed JVM.

   * The fix is currently in LibreOffice 6.2.3 on eoan.

  [Test Case]

   1. Launch the LibreOffice Start Center
   2. Open Tools > Options
   3. Navigate to LibreOffice > Advanced
   4. A JRE should be listed with Location: /usr/lib/jvm/...

  [Regression Potential]

   * This fix is small and concentrated so potential for regression
  should be relatively low.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and manual testing as described above
should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1822839] Re: LibreOffice doesn't detect JVM because of unexpected java.vendor property value

2019-06-25 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Olivier, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libreoffice-l10n into bionic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/libreoffice-l10n/1:6.0.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.7 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

2019-05-23 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Olivier, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libreoffice into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial7
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * A recent OpenJDK update changes the value of the "java.vendor"
property from "Oracle Corporation" to "Private Build". This breaks the
code in LibreOffice that detects an installed JVM.

   * The fix is currently in LibreOffice 6.2.3 on eoan.

  [Test Case]

   1. Launch the LibreOffice Start Center
   2. Open Tools > Options
   3. Navigate to LibreOffice > Advanced
   4. A JRE from Vendor "Ubuntu" should be listed with Location:
/usr/lib/jvm/...

  [Regression Potential]

   * This fix is small and concentrated so potential for regression
  should be relatively low.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and manual testing as described above
should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked in.

Can we get an SRU template for this bug? At least a viable test-case
could be enough, with bonus points for everything else.

Status in LibreOffice:

Status in libreoffice package in Debian:

Bug description:
libreoffice autopkgtests are failing on disco with openjdk

The likely culprit is that change:

  + * Sync packages with 11.0.3+4-2:

  Indeed with version 11.0.3+4-1ubuntu1:

  $ java -XshowSettings -version 2>&1 | grep "java.vendor "
  java.vendor = Oracle Corporation

  And with version 11.0.3+4-2ubuntu1:

  $ java -XshowSettings -version 2>&1 | grep "java.vendor "
  java.vendor = Private Build

Looking at the code in Libreoffice that looks for a JVM, it validates
the vendor against a hardcoded list of known vendors:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/jvmfwk/plugins/sunmajor/pluginlib/vendorlist.cxx?h=libreoffice-6-2#n33

Not sure what the purpose of that upstream code is, but this means the
new openjdk-11 build in Ubuntu breaks it.

Originally reported in Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1822839.

A recent OpenJDK update in Ubuntu 19.04 (to be released later this
month) changes the value of the "java.vendor" property, from the well-
known name "Oracle Corporation" to "Private Build".

This breaks the code in LibreOffice that detects an installed JVM,
because the vendor name is validated against a hardcoded list:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/jvmfwk/plugins/sunmajor/pluginlib/vendorlist.cxx?h=libreoffice-6-2#n33.

This change can probably be reverted in Ubuntu, but I'm wondering what
the purpose of that hardcoded list of vendors is? Isn't it a valid use
case for distributions to change the vendor name?
