[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-12-02 Thread Olivier Tilloy
The profile is at /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.chromium.chromium.
Beware that it is managed by snapd, and updating the snap to a newer revision
will re-generate it, so custom changes will be lost.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-12-02 Thread Olivier Tilloy
The nameservice apparmor abstraction allows read access to
/etc/resolv.conf. However apparmor doesn't resolve symlinks by default.
I suggest you bind mount /etc/resolv.conf.PUBLIC to /etc/resolv.conf,
instead of a symlink.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-25 Thread Olivier Tilloy
The key to the problem likely lies in the following:

« Regarding the DNS setup: YES my DNS setup is not the default. I
have disabled the systemd DNS crap and fallen back on /etc/resolv.conf -
in that way it is non-default. »

Can you run "journalctl -f | grep DEN" in a terminal, then run chromium,
observe how it fails to resolve names, and share the output of the
journalctl command?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-13 Thread Sachin Garg
Agree with comment #22 - however why does does the SNAP version not
work?

Just updated to the EDGE channel [Version 80.0.3962.2 (Official Build)
snap (64-bit)] - but to no avail.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-12 Thread Jalon Funk
"chromium-browser/xenial-updates 78.0.3904.70-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 amd64
[upgradable from: 77.0.3865.120-0ubuntu1~snap1]"

xenial is ubuntu 16.04. It seems that you have mixed repos from
different ubuntu versions and chromium deb from older version overwrote
version from 19.10. Kixing repos from different ubuntu versions isn't
supported and you should fix this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-11 Thread Sachin Garg
Just ran a "sudo apt update" followed by "sudo apt list --upgradable"
...

chromium-browser/xenial-updates 78.0.3904.70-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 amd64
[upgradable from: 77.0.3865.120-0ubuntu1~snap1]

So, it seems that upstream has reverted to an DPKG instead of snap.

$ $ snap list
Name Version Rev Tracking Publisher Notes
chromium 78.0.3904.97 937 stablecanonical* -

Using the snap version [Version 78.0.3904.97 (Official Build) snap
(64-bit)], I continue to get the DNS error.

However, on using the installed DPKG version [Version 78.0.3904.70
(Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 19.10 (64-bit)],
DNS works fine.

So, this is an issue with how the SNAP packaging works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-11 Thread Sachin Garg
I have run the apport command.

Regarding the DNS setup: YES my DNS setup is not the default. I have
disabled the systemd DNS crap and fallen back on /etc/resolv.conf - in
that way it is non-default.

However, every application: Firefox Browser, Google Chrome browser,
Thunderbird E-mail client, OpenVPN client, SSH client/server,
wget/curl/aria2c, Python 2.x/3.x - you name it works except for the
chromium snap. The chromium-browser worked fine when I was still running
18.04 LTS on the same hardware and the same network configuration.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
As requested by Chris, please run the following command in a terminal to
attach additional debug information to this bug report:

apport-collect 1850893

Is there anything special with your DNS setup? (something non-default
maybe)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850893] Re: chromium-browser does not resolve any names

2019-11-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is intended to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.10
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CosmicCuttlefish/ReleaseNotes) or to Ubuntu
20.04 LTS (after 20.04.1's release), ie. the next release or next LTS
release. If you read Ubuntu 19.10's release notes
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EoanErmine/ReleaseNotes) you'll note only
mention of upgrading from Ubuntu 19.04 as this is all that's supported
(& tested). From your description, it reads to me like you need
support. (fyi: the snapped chromium-browser has been used by testers
for over six months)

This bug report can be converted to a question (which is aimed at
support). You can also find help with your problem in the support forum
of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1850893

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
