Daniel, Thanks for you help. The gsettings showed that there some bindings involving "super". I tried those an they all worked. I tried "Activities" again and it worked. I did remove some packages after I noticed the problem. I've attached that history in case it helps someone else with this

Please run these commands: dpkg -l > packages.txt gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt and then attach the resulting text files here. Please also try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen and tell us if that has the same issue. ** Changed in: gnome-shell
