The issue was probably caused by one of these:

Thanks for you help. The gsettings showed that there some bindings
involving "super". I tried those an they all worked. I tried
"Activities" again and it worked.
I did remove some packages after I noticed the problem. I've attached
that history in case it helps someone else with this
My gsettings.
