[Desktop-packages] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2015-10-03 Thread Saeid Yazdani
I confirm this as it happens to me quite a lot!

But in my case, if any application is in fullscreen mode (e.g. skype,
QtCreator, Android Studio...) and if I try to switch between wrkspaces
by ctrl-alt-arrow keys, compiz cpu utilization goes to 100% and there is
no escape from it! only solution is hard reset...going to a terminal
does not always work in a terminal and my computer does not respond at
all.

Ubuntu 14.04.01?? 64

I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual
screen setup acts as one large screen (windows are stretched to the
full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2015-08-12 Thread vitz_3
Right now I've disabled the launcher shortcut for the workspace switcher
since using it safely without a total system lock up is hit-and-miss.
I've also disabled the hot corner I had configured and the Super+S
shortcut in the expo plugin. However, something seems hard coded
somewhere since I cannot for the life of me figure out where to
COMPLETELY disable the expo plugin. Super+S is still captured as the
command to initiate the workspace switcher.

If I had a way to disable Super + S from doing this I wouldn't have to
worry about having a key combination of death on my machine right now.

Any hints as to how to completely disable this shortcut? I've looked
through dconf and GConf and came up empty in ways to disable this
shortcut.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2015-02-21 Thread dremodaris
I have the same problem in 14.04. As mentioned at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1301623
it is possible to reproduce the problem by dragging around windows in the
workspace switcher, grabbing them by the title bar (especially, it seems, by
the bubble buttons in the title bar), and I can regain control by pressing
super+S, exiting the workspace switcher.

When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more

(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual

full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2015-01-21 Thread Matt
On 14.04 the same: when I switch workspace in windows oftentimes it get stuck
on workspace mode (where I see the 4 workspaces). The moust pointer becomes a
hand and there is no way to switch back to normal mode. This seems to happen
more if there are windows refreshing (e.g. a tail in some terminal window). I
typically get out of this by kill -HUP compiz from Ctrl+Alt+F1
I could not get out of it disabling snapping windows because it said unity
plugin requires.
VGA driver is fglrx proprietary

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2014-12-09 Thread sperlab
Hi, on 14.04, after digging into nvidia and compiz stuff, it seems that
the only way for me to definitely correct this issue on a 3 monitor /
dual nvidia quadro 600 setup is simply to fall back to nvdidia 331
drivers.
