Adding of options snd-hda-intel model=generic to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf fixed the same problem for me. Before I had options snd-hda-
intel probe_mask=1 model=auto there. Now sound in 12.04 works fine.
During problem investigation I found following: I have Ubuntu 8.04
installed on my PC.
[Expired for alsa-driver (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for
60 days.]
