I have the same problem on ubuntu 17.10 with gnome shell 3.26.0
Bug usually occurs while tabbing between active windows. The effect is
the screen freezing for some time and when it comes back gnome-shell
restarting (looks same as restarting it with "ALT+F2, r").

The solution sugested by connstance does not resolve the problem. In my
case I am trying to access my customer VPN and I cannot password protect
the certificate. In pfSense this is a global option, and if they change
this they need to change all users vpn.

Today, I also ran into this issue. Wifi was working and I could
successfully ping Google's DNS 8.8.8.8.
However, pinging google.com didn't work: "Name or service not known"

I have now realized that the Xorg team won't look into Xinerama issues
as they claim that it's deprecated in favor of RandR. Please feel free
to mark this bug as Won't Fix as that better reflects the reality of the
situation from the standpoint of the Ubuntu developers.

Afer installing the 4.14-rc2 kernel, it appears this is fixed. I was able to
switch between the 3 wifi's here without issue.

Hi friends. I'm testing Ubuntu 17.10 with Gnome 3.26. I noticed some top
bar icons disappear after my screen locks and I go back in to my active
session. As an example, I currently have Quassel, Telegram, and
Nextcloud sync client in the upper right

Happened again. I had just logged back in, used Firefox and Thunderbird
a bit when it logged out all of a sudden again. This time, when I logged
back in my PC froze. Had to power off pressing the power button.
