broken pipe error, which is surpressed in order to access the item in
alsamixer.

I would also be really grateful for this fix. I too have a Xonar U7 and
when opening alsamixer in the terminal, all output devices are listed,
along with capture devices; however these capture devices are
unavailable and you cannot enable them (it lists two for some reason,
