problem, which is exactly as Jacob Opstad described in comment #50. To
work it out, after installing the PPA I needed to restart the daemon, or

whatever account I want and everything looks normal. It's only a problem
if I put the cursor over any icon in the launcher or press the super key
or when the logout/shutdown dialog or the alt+tab image is supposed to

Also tried yesterday the x-swat ppa, but nothing there, like you say.
But I have tried a Lubuntu 17.10 Live USB
Could you test 17.10 live image? It comes with 17.2.2 and should work,
then upgrading to artful-proposed should break it again since it has
17.2.4.
Looks like Intel gen4 & 5 regressed, everything newer seems to work fine
which is why testing didn't catch this. There is a newer upstream
version
