[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742852] Re: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update
Having a similar issue on my ASUS Zenbook UX434, also using the ALC294 as above, Kernel: 5.13.0-28-generic. In my case after a reboot from my Windows 10 dual boot the audio out is fine, but the microphone has very loud crackling which makes it unusable. The problem isn't fixed by a reboot but after a full shutdown and restart the problem seems to go away. Thanks to Hilikus for the workaround! Had an identical problem on Kubuntu 20.04 and now ZorinOS 16 - clearly this issue isn't entirely fixed even with more recent kernel patches. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742852 Title: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After a windows update I lost all the sound on my ubuntu machine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742852] Re: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update
Update! I think I've solved the issue following this comment https://askubuntu.com/a/811461/815718. I've installed both pulseaudio-equalizer and also-oss and after that it seems audio start working correctly after dual-booting on both Linux and Windows. Hopes this solve my issue definitely (as I am not 100% sure this was the solution that worked, need further testing) and that it helps other people trying this solution! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742852] Re: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update
Hi! I have an Asus Zenbook UX331 with Linux Mint 19.3 Kernel version 5.3.0-51 and dual-boot with Windows 10. This laptop has the same audio device (ALC 294) as this thread is about. My problem is that the audio speakers sound kind of clunky and distorted after dual-booting from Windows to Linux. A fully shutting down and then booting in linux solves the issue but I need to boot on W10 first as I use Asus Battery Health Charging to cap my battery percentage on 60 so I can keep my laptop plugged in. I've tried many workarounds and possible fixes but the only way I could fix this was uninstalling Realtek Audio Device and High Audio Definition Device on Windows 10. Altough this is not a permanent fix as it sometimes doesn't work (probably because windows reinstall this drivers when it detect they aren't installed) and I have no sound in Windows without this drivers. I would be more than happy to provide further info about my system in order to know what is really happening.
Hi, ALC294 works but you will have to recompile the kernel :/ A patched was made that you can find at http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2018-December/142689.html Be carefull there are 3 mails containing differents patches of the same file sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c Personnally I have a ASUS UX433 laptop and I applied this patch on the linux-4.19.8.tar.xz kernel. Once done all works ok. It should works also on a ASUS UX533. Hope this helps. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742852] Re: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update
I'm having the same issue. It seems we have the same laptop, based on what you attached. I think I have found some interesting details about this bug: 1) In my case, i'm dual booting with windows 10, the problem only occurs after booting into windows and then rebooting into ubuntu. A shutdown + start straight to ubuntu fixes the problem (I think this is why your sound came back). So, although this is a workaround, there is definitely something wrong. I describe the problem here in more detail https://askubuntu.com/q/1032543/172846 2) I think the problem is the windows Realtek drive putting the sound card in some kind of stand-by state that the linux driver cannot wake up from. Some people have reported with similar problems that downgrading the windows Realtek driver fixes the issue, but to me it is still clear that the problem is the linux driver not waking up correctly the device, not the windows driver using a feature intended to save power 3) With this idea that the problem is power-saving, I enabled the power-save feature in the linux driver: `echo 10 >/sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save` If I wait 10 seconds and then trigger a sound (i'm using a terminal's bell), the sound now works, it sounds weird at first (crackling) but it keeps improving after like 2 seconds where it sounds AFAICT normal, but then 2 seconds later the volume starts to decrease like when speakers are running out of battery until sound is completely gone again. So it seems the linux drivers are somewhat capable of waking up the sound card, but not permanently ** Attachment added: "alsa-info-not-working" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1742852/+attachment/5138104/+files/alsa-info-not-working -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742852 Title: [hostname, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after windows update Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After a windows update I lost all the sound on my ubuntu machine.
