Julian, I propose the following title for GNOME bug report: "WiFi/network icon and settings randomly disappear or misbehave in status menu" One more thing: I forgot to mention that I seem to observe the problem randomly on roughly 1/2 of boots or logins. In fact, the issue is not limited to wireless networks. The wired connection options are also not displayed correctly. This screenshot shows what I see in the menu when connected to wired network with wrong profile. By the way, after I reinstalled Ubuntu 18.04.1, the problem showed up for the first time after I added a second wired profile... By the way, I reinstalled Ubuntu 18.04.1 from scratch last week, but I kept my user directory intact. I still have the same problem since upgrading to 18.04, but only when *not* connected to a wired network. When connected to a wired network, I see the wireless menu and the wired menu correctly. I have two bonded NICS, on 17.10 the menu used to show both NICs each with a connection name. No, it was gone completely. The entire WiFi option was gone from the menu too, you could only configure it by opening control center. That said, have not seen it anymore recently, so closing for now.
