I think there are many other items we can add going forward, but I think
the three we have now: Announcements, Upcoming Meetups, and Tweets can be
merged independently.

The reason we have extra space is because we wanted to limit the number of
announcements on the front page :) However, yes, we can add blog entries there
in the future.

I too have felt this was an oddity. +1 for the change with deprecation.
However do note that attributes are layered and port attributes or operator
attributes can be specified at the DAG level and they apply globally within
the scope.
