It is possible to write a macro in Python.
Use Tools -> Macros -> Organize Macros -> Python to view the Python macros included with OOo.
I am told that this worked fine in OOo 2.4, but when I tried this in OOo 3.0, I could not figure out how to make this work apart from directly placing the macros with the samples distributed with OOo.
