there are a bunch of tests that i have to skip now, because though they fail, they have been fixed in the clearwater example PR. once that PR gets merged, i'll be able to rebase and remove the skips (the skips are properly marked). and, no, i will not rebase on the clearwater branch. i had a miserable time rebasing and then changing in the past... would rather wait for the merge to master.
