I'm not a committer, but I'll comment that most of those python issues are mine. Nevertheless, backwards-compatibility objections have been raised to some of the patches I'd offered, and I want to acknowledge that those objections are probably valid and should push those tickets off to 1.8.0.

It's been a few months since our last release. A number of bugfixes, improvements and new features have been made in the interim. I'd like to try to release these in the next few weeks. Are there any issues folks would like to get into this release in this timeframe? Thanks, Doug
