I imagine this mostly affects GCP connectors, but perhaps grpcio is used
elsewhere? (I haven't checked)

Background is that I'm updating the minimum grpcio version to 1.12.1 (
https://github.com/grpc/grpc/releases/tag/v1.12.0).
