It’s possible you will also need to use the Babel parser, because DATE is a
reserved keyword and therefore the parser needs to work in a different mode in
order to see it as a function name. I think I made the DATE function work for
Redshift but I’m not sure I did it for BigQuery.

For new committers/PMCs, we could possibly add a sentence in the invitation
email asking about their preferences and if they want to share them.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I will update the commit guidelines
accordingly.
For the release notes, I don't have a preference. I don't think someone is
spending time going over the list of contributors (apart maybe from PMCs
for inviting new committers :)).
