@bvbharatk I think a better idea for minimise the downtime in
restartnetwork (with cleanup)/restartvpc (with cleanup)/ updatenetwork (to
another redundant network offering) is
(1) stop backup router (2) create new backup router (3) stop master (4)
create a new router as backup.
as I posted in #1198 , I already implemented the features (restart
network/vpc, update network) 4.7. I can create PRs if anyone is interested .

[GitHub] cloudstack issue #1557: Removed unused methods from XenServerConnectionPool

2016-06-01 Thread rafaelweingartner
Github user rafaelweingartner commented on the issue:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/1557

Hi @Daan,
We are also not sure, that is why we have sent an email to the security
maligning list to start a discussion about that. The question regarding the
“com.cloud.hypervisor.xenserver.resource.XenServerConnectionPool.
"TrustAllManager" class was the following.

> The code at line 77-96 is setting the default SSL socket factory for
HTTPS connection to an implementation (TrustAllManager class created at lines
483- 506) that always considers the certificate of the server valid (without
any checks). Also, at line 90, it was overridden the host name verifier (the
check that matches hostname and certificates CN) to always returns true.

We also mentioned that:

> We might be misinterpreting the java doc of methods
“javax.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultSSLSocketFactory(SSLSocketFactory)”
 and
“javax.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultHostnameVerifier(HostnameVerifier)”,
but those sets seem to affect every single HTTPS request that is performed by
ACS (JVM runtime in which those methods were executed). We do not know how many
HTTPS requests, and to what extent they are essential to ACS workings, but that
code seems to make ACS vulnerable to man in the middle attacks (if it uses
HTTPS requests to execute some of its tasks).

Speculating a bit, we had an idea why that code was added:

> We believe that was done in order to allow the use of the XAPI via rest
API through HTTPS, probably because the host is using self-signed certificates.
If that is the case, I think we have better options to work around that, such
as just disabling the check for those specific requests and or using a keystore
with the hosts’ public keys that could be downloaded at the host addition
process.

In conclusion, if ACS uses an HTTPS connection to either download a file
(template or something else) or to send a command to a remote region over the
internet that connection/request may be vulnerable to MID attacks. Even though
we will have an SSL connection, we will not know with whom, because the
certificate checks were all disabled.

Again I would like to say that we do not know how many (if) ACS uses much
HTTPS request to execute some of its tasks; that is why we raised the question.

4.7 - VPC Network ACL rules

2016-06-01 Thread Patrick Dube
Hello

I have been hitting problems with Network ACL rules in VPCs with 4.7 (
looked at the code for 4.8 and it looks similar). It seems that the rule
ordering is actually inverted on the VR. So the rules with higher rule
numbers are getting checked before the lower ones. As an example, this can
be problematic if you want a DENY all and to whitelist certain traffic.
Also, changing the rule number does not apply the new order to the VR.

Anyone else having problems?

Patrick

long waiting times on routervm for savepassword and DhcpEntryCommand's

2016-06-01 Thread Özhan Rüzgar Karaman
Hi Developers;
I could find any answer from Cloudstack User Mailing list, i am forwarding
my mail to the development list, thanks for all answers who has experience
on high capacity virtual router usage.

Thanks
Özhan

Today i noticed that my vm creation commands takes a little bit long then
before. When i check the logs i noticed that router vm takes too much time
like 4 seconds for each savepassword and DhcpEntryCommands.

We are using advanced networking with security groups enabled for ACS 4.8 .
It looks like when ip address usage increases(100 ip addresess for one C
Class network) for each guest network block, router vm responds slower than
the old days.

We are using default compute offering for virtual router, my plan is to
change to default offering for virtual router vm to 512 mb ram & 2 core cpu
and increase cpu shares and restart virtual router.

Are there any other cleanup procedures or other ways to speed up
savepassword and DhcpEntryCommands like disable logging or any other clues
would be helpful. Because of this long waiting times on 2 commands total vm
creation time takes longer then expected.

I think this PR is going to cause a conflict with #1547

That PR fixes a series of issues in the VR which are currently broken,
mainly when using multiple ranges inside a POD VLAN with Basic Networking.
