Just looked, for DS-900 a file was added MockUserTransactionResolver.java
which does not have a proper header. Probably not a big deal, but should
we fix before this release gets cut?

Hi Mark

Could you add a valid license header to MockUserTransactionResolver.java or
replace it if it's not Apache licensed?

---

Hi [~tibor17] basically, the issue is that the entity object is known at the
repository layer not the method layer
[https://github.com/apache/deltaspike/blob/master/deltaspike/modules/data/impl/src/main/java/org/apache/deltaspike/data/impl/meta/RepositoryMetadata.java]

For your use case to work, you need to move that entity, or duplicate it, at
the method level.

Re: [DISCUSS] require Java8 and move to Deltaspike-1.9.x version?

I think assuming all EE7 vendors support Java 8 then I think its fine. But
I definitely believe we can't do EE6 on Java 8.

Re: [DISCUSS] require Java8 and move to Deltaspike-1.9.x version?

2018-03-01 Thread John D. Ament
IMHO to move to Java 8 we need to drop support for EE6/EE7. So to me that
says the next version is 2.0 not 1.9.x.

There are some weld 1.1 versions that support this, but no testable AS7
instance that we can check against.

Wrong license on proxy-module impl-asm

2018-01-13 Thread John D. Ament
The license for proxy-module's impl-asm binary JAR is generated
incorrectly. Do we need to include a shaded ASM? If we do, we need to
include the BSD-3-Clause license in the generated JAR.

Re: Build failed in Jenkins: DeltaSpike Deploy » Apache DeltaSpike Proxy-Module #2173

2018-01-11 Thread John D. Ament
The rat failure is pointing to the target directory on impl-asm5 ->
https://builds.apache.org/job/DeltaSpike%20Deploy/org.apache.deltaspike.modules$proxy-module-project/ws/target/rat.txt

Looks like the module got renamed, so its probably just a matter of
cleaning up the workspace.

You can disable it programmatically. I've done wireshark checks, there is
no other HTTP calls made out. Here's a quick patch that does it:

Re: provide a default Scheduler which is not using quartz as default?

There's already so many solutions around scheduling. It makes sense to
disable it out of the box using configuration, as well as documenting it
for users. I'm not sure how well maintained quartz is.

[~gpetracek] thanks for the reminder. We already support Deactivatable on
repositories -

I've got a response I'll share on user list that the person can use immediately.

[~romain.manni-bucau] no this is a common use case (the on list reporter
mentions CDI 2.0). Vetoed will work, I just worry about not having a solution
for EE6 use cases. The problem is that the repository is not an actual bean,
but we register one, so we want to use {{@Vetoed}} or similar to indicate it
should not have a repository bean registered.

[~gpetracek] [~tandraschko] what about the idea of also introducing a config
property, e.g. {{com.mycompany.repository.RepositoryClass.vetoed=true}} to see
if it should be vetoed? Considered {{false}} by default.

Where did it break jenkins?

https://builds.apache.org/view/A-D/view/DeltaSpike/job/DeltaSpike_TomEE/1220/
 passed
https://builds.apache.org/view/A-D/view/DeltaSpike/job/DeltaSpike_Payara_4.1.x/48/
 passed
https://builds.apache.org/view/A-D/view/DeltaSpike/job/DeltaSpike_Wildfly_10.1/63/
 passed

In fact, I asked the contributor to rebase to ensure that CI was passing
since CI was failing.

If that's the case, then it should be as simple as adding the missing
libraries.

Re: CI for DeltaSpike?

2017-12-01 Thread John D. Ament
The main issues are that we're all independent contributors to DS, all with
the same level of rights to write to the repo. We typically don't do PRs.
We actually do have a PR job in Jenkins for those external parties that do
raise PRs ->
https://builds.apache.org/view/A-D/view/DeltaSpike/job/DeltaSpike-PR-Builder/

As for the state of the builds, agreed that it's a pain point. We have too
many permutations of our tests, and it's pretty hard to test all of them
locally. We need to come up with either a definitive short list of tests
to always run, or figure out a way to better modularize DeltaSpike to limit
the impacts.

I do still think it's worthwhile to re envision our pipeline to have better
control over what tests are run and how they are managed.

Re: Build failed in Jenkins: DeltaSpike Deploy #2115

2017-11-30 Thread John D. Ament
Looks like this was the one job where that profile was still working right,
I tweaked the job config and restarted it

:-(

If there are any other java 8 jobs that are broken now, just add
-Pjava8.tests to the maven config.

You mentioned this in a prior comment:

Is it in fact that exception? Because that's a different issue.

John D. Ament updated DELTASPIKE-1301:
--
Description:
Hello,

I have the following data-module repository:

{code}
@Repository
public interface CustomerManagementRepository extends
EntityRepository<Customer, BigInteger>
{
  ...
}
{code}

This repository is called from a stateless session bean, as follows:

{code}
  @Inject
  private CustomerManagementRepository repo;

  public List findByFirsName(String firstName)
  {
return repo.findByFirsName(firstName);
  }
{code}

The following CDI producer is provided as well:

{code}
public class EntityManagerProducer
{
  @PersistenceContext
  private EntityManager em;

  @Produces
  public EntityManager createEntityManager()
  {
return em;
  }
}

Re: CDI extension: error with specialization beans

2017-09-24 Thread John D. Ament
The error you're getting is more to do with EJB than it does with CDI.
JBoss AS 7 is very old. I doubt specializing an EJB would have ever worked
(I'm not even sure it works today, specializing is more to do with how CDI
works). Does it need to be an EJB?

[~tandraschko] sorry thought I had already responded. The problem with pulling
it out is that it has to be in two places, since this annotation can control
both transactions and repository. Having it in a common place makes more sense.

we used for OWB 1/1.5. There's some test failures, I haven't looked at
yet, but wanted to get it running through Jenkins to make sure it's not my

Re: Creating a branch for DeltaSpike 2.0? Or 1.x maintenance?

2017-06-03 Thread John D. Ament
I agree with Thomas. While always minimal, if we can trim our internal
libraries and make them a bit more user friendly, it will simplify how
users leverage our modules (e.g. maybe we don't have a core module
anymore). This means better module isolation. If Mark brings config to
Geronimo via MP then we could even provide the legacy DeltaSpike Config as
a compatibility layer for those using it.

I'm also confused about the comment around "micro-profile" as well as "cdi2
as a new baseline once its really useful"

Re: [1/2] deltaspike git commit: further release fixes

2017-05-28 Thread John D. Ament
I think that was the goal of the requestor's ask:

- Not provide a bad bom
- Only bring in our stuff

DeltaSpike is very odd in the landscape, we don't directly declare
dependencies. That's what makes a bom like this very useful and easy to
manage, it doesn't bring in anything else. What would happen previously is
with the parent structure it would actually bring in our profiles and some
of the dependencies within those profiles. That doesn't happen with the
structure I had put in place + dependency management section. With this, a
user ends up getting our internal build profiles, which may not match what
they're expecting to do.

And I disagree about this breaking maven. The release failed because you
didn't use the release profiles that have been mentioned since
~0.3-incubating. I've done it before as well and ended up with similar
results, but I was able to catch it before throwing the vote (however, I
missed that the binary dist was empty :-D)

2017-05-28 Thread John D. Ament

I'd recommend just running a mvn deploy -Pdistribution from the 1.8.0 tag,
that should resolve this.

[jira] [Updated] (DELTASPIKE-940) @Transactional and @EntityManagerConfig each use a different method to resolve EntityManagers

Attachment: ds940.patch

This is basically what I had in mind for the first pass. Deprecate the
existing behavior, and let that be baked in.

To support the existing, we can create a qualifier based implementation in SPI,
especially since it doesn't support qualifiers with parameters in them.

IMHO, we should resolve [1] first, and then figure out if when we want to
cut 1.8.0.

While we shouldn't remove the old behavior pre-DS 2.0, it would be good to
provide similar capabilities in both.

As a result, I think it makes sense to include qualifier in the look up while
still allowing class based resolution.

Of the tests that fail, there are few that I would consider to be outside
the realm of bugs in our code. For instance, Transactional repositories
don't run on Wildfly, last I checked, and its because of something we're
doing outside the spec, but turns out RedHat components do it as well. Not
sure if its been fixed, or maybe we just need to fix our tests to be a bit
less buggy.

Most of our build failures are due to lack of maintenance on our side -
there's way too many jobs, and keeping up with them is a pain. I know Gav
for instance tends to edit files directly when making broad changes. Some
of our builds have broken recently from it (haven't dug into it too much,
was actually planning to look tonight/tomorrow).

Personally, I would love to take this opportunity to switch our build
system to be based on Jenkinsfile and a pipeline, instead of all of these
build jobs. This way we can maintain in source control what we run CI
against, and provide a more straight-forward set of build tasks to run. It
would also reduce Jenkins overhead dramatically since its fewer jobs net to
run.  Please it looks prettier.

For anything we're saying we're kicking, I would like to avoid deleting
maven profiles, and instead just delete jenkins jobs. This way if someone
locally wants to take it on, they still can.

Would there be any benefit to seeing if there's a way to run our test suite
against Wildfly Swarm? And potentially Websphere Liberty?

Are you running Java 8 as your JVM?

Description: Create a better default TransactionStrategy that handles more
use cases out of the box. (was: Make EnvironmentAwareTransactionStrategy the
default transaction strategy, since it properly looks up container managed,
resource local without requiring the user to do anything.)

Hey, I disagree. We can talk through it more, but it isn't a top priority for
me right now.

John D. Ament resolved DELTASPIKE-1195.

Resolution: Won't Fix

Wasn't me, but the user mentioned that issue is not ours, so I think we're good.

> The deltaspike-servlet-module-impl jar contains a web-fragment.xml file
> containing a tag. This forces every web application
> including this jar file to support distributed sessions.
> I know it's possible to disable the parsing of fragments, but we use
> fragments for other libraries. Besides, I don't think it's the responsibility
> of deltaspike to decide if web application sessions are distributable.
