[~hachikuji] One drawback I see is that we lose the mirroring of the normal
consumer and Connect group member classes. DistributedHerder can serve this
purpose too, but then the naming starts to make less sense. I'm not opposed,
but maybe it looks less clear to a reader (if any of this code is clear to a
reader...)
