OK, found it. Two problems:
1> OpenCloseCoreStressTest constructs various sub-directories for cores,
bypassing the place where the included XML snippet is copied to the same
dir as solrconfig-minimal.xml. Easy fix.
2> The test swallows the exception rather than failing, I can fix that too.
