Hmmm. Perhaps then the what's-new should be extracted from the ref guide and not authored in the wiki? The wiki could contain a template with a INSERT-HERE for the relevant part of the ref guide, since this is used as an announcement. Such a proposal means ensuring every release has its highlights in the ref guide, not just major ones. The "major-changes-in-solr-8.adoc" could become simply "changes-in-solr-8.adoc" with a "Major changes in 8.0" *section/heading*, and with a separate part enumerating minor releases. WDYT? At least then when working on a big issue I might at least add a place-holder to this page if not an actual highlight note. As an aside; I wonder what email client you use. Re: Call for help: moving from ant build to gradle
I looked into this a little more. Seems if we just do it with master and going forward, we don’t need multi version support - Uwe seems to have taken it out with the move to Java 11? I can handle regenerate. The other quality checks shouldn’t be crazy. So I guess we can probably do this, but before I focus on BS details, please speak up if you hate the idea of Gradle and you have the clout to stop it. Re: Call for help: moving from ant build to gradle
I've got my own lucene-solr gradle branch as well. I stole the BuildPlugin and CheckWorkingCopy from Dat's branch, but also made some changes. * Similar to above above, I don't move the src files so it can keep things up to date without lots of pain. * I used a plugin that lets us define versions in a root props file like we currently do and ensures we use the same versions in all modules even after auto conflict resolution (unlike gradle by default) * It also locks versions so we can continue to pay attention to scary automatic dependency resolution changes * implementation and api used instead of compile * Things build and the majority of tests pass (Lucene's TestVirtualMethod does not for example) If someone like Uwe is serious about helping out with fun extras (regenerating sources, extracting data from ICU, quality checks, documentation (XSLT)), I'd look at contributing. - Mark On Mon, Apr 8, 2019 at 9:44 AM Đạt Cao Mạnh wrote: > Cool Diego, > > I will take a look on this. mocobeta commented on issue #654: LUCENE-8778: Define analyzer SPI names as static final fields and document the names URL: https://github.com/apache/lucene-solr/pull/654#issuecomment-489340583 I updated the branch: refine the catch clause and safety checks in the SPI loader; use camel casing for names. Remaining work: - Add the "NAME" field and Javadocs to all other analysis components - Write regression tests for all existing components - (Look for easier ways to do so...) [PSA] Activate 2019 Call for Speakers ends May 8
Hi everyone, I wanted to do a quick PSA for anyone who may have missed the announcement last month to let you know the call for speakers is currently open through *Wednesday, May 8th*, for Activate 2019 (the Search and AI Conference), focused on the Apache Solr ecosystem and the intersection of Search and AI: https://lucidworks.com/2019/04/02/activate-2019-call-for-speakers/ The Activate Conference will be held September 9-12 in Washington, D.C. The conference, rebranded last year from "Lucene/Solr Revolution", is expected to grow considerably this year, and I'd like to encourage all of you working on advancements in the Lucene/Solr project or working on solving interesting problems in this space to consider submitting a talk if you haven't already. There are tracks dedicated to Solr Development, AI-powered Search, Search Development at Scale, and numerous other related topics - including tracks for key use cases like digital commerce - that I expect most on this list will find appealing. If you're interested in presenting (your conference registration fee will be covered if accepted), please submit a talk here: https://activate-conf.com/speakers/ Just wanted to make sure everyone in the development and user community here was aware of the conference and didn't miss the opportunity to submit a talk by Wednesday if interested. All the best, Trey Grainger Chief Algorithms Officer @ Lucidworks https://www.linkedin.com/in/treygrainger/
