My apologies if I did this somehow out of order, it's my first contribution to
a Open Source project. Is there some other process to getting a patch verified
and applied? Is there a reason noone has commented on this, or why it hasn't
been applied?

No particular reason. I know in this case the component's original
author is busy and we usually defer to the author to apply the patch.
I personally know nothing about this component so it takes much longer
for someone like me to look into it.
