A club membership database - Apache OpenOffice Wiki

2013-05-30 Thread Greg McNamara

Hi Drew

Your tutorial at

http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/A_club_membership_database

is useful but seems incomplete. It only goes so far as 3 of the seven
queries you recommend and no forms or reports based on them and there is
no link to an actual example.

Am I missing something?
I figure your tutorial got me far enough to figure out the rest but if
there is a complete version somewhere it would help me expedite this
project.

Please advise.

cheers

Greg

We also distribute OpenOffice source code and SDK distributions via
the Apache mirror network. You can find information on becoming an
Apache mirror site here:

For SourceForge you would need to contact them directly.

Build #113 of aoo-w7ia2 went well.

We had observed the problem of the hanging process.
#105 had hanging process
#106 went well after your process cleaning
#107, #108, #109, #110 had again problems with hanging processes
#111 went well after your process cleaning
#112 the first successful build without your invention
#113 went well with my first temporary investigation stuff - failure

#114 went well with my second investigation stuff

I decided to do some investigation stuff as the problem showed up two
times in the last days. Currently, we do not hit the problem. But
when
it occurs again, we will have some more information due to the
different
logging. The problem of the current HTML logging is that we do not
have
it, when the hanging process error occurs.

As #114 went well I will now switch on the default multiprocesses

#115 build of aoo-w7ia2 having standard multiprocessor builds (options

I will leave the HTML output switched off until Monday. May be the

#117 build of aoo-w7ia2 showed again the error.
Thus, following #118 build fails - it could not remove

Andrew, can you please kill the hanging processes.

Cleaned up - fingers crossed that this works. great work.

Thanks for the cleaning - #120 build of aoo-w7ia2 went well

I will switch on the HTML output for aoo-w7ia2 again.
I will mark the log collection task to be always performed - may be this
will give us HTML logs even when a failure occurs.

The Bad: #121 build of aoo-w7ia2 failed again.
The Good: The HTML log collection in case of such a failure works.

The HTML logs of #121 (which will be overwritten by the next build)
reveals that modules apr and sc were built successfully, but the
'deliver' steps were not performed. I assume this is again caused by one
(or more) hanging process(es)

@Andrew:
When you have time, please have a look at the machine. If possible,
please provide information about the hanging processes in case they are
existing and causing again the failure.

As nobody else showed up I am volunteering to take care for our Windows
buildbots. Andrew, can you support me to get the corresponding karma to
have direct access to the machine(s) hosting our Windows buildbots?

Thanks in advance.

The DOC format, although not perfectly supported, is supported pretty
well in AOO. When given the choice, I usually choose DOC over DOCX
because of this. LibreOffice supports DOCX at this time, but I still
choose DOC over DOCX if I have a choice there.

And, are there any plans on upgrading the saved file type to an 'X'

You should be able to read DOCX files in AOO now, and I do believe that
DOCX support for writing is planned. I do not remember the planned
release version, however. With my horrid memory, I do not remember if it
was 4.0 or 4.1 as an expected release (but my memory may be faulty).

 Hi,

one important part is the translation.

I proposed a deadline of June 14th but had to correct myself because I
am not available form June 14-17 and it seems that I again will be the
 bottleneck.

Anyway I will start to integrate the last translations on June 18th.
Ideally the translations will be available as soon as possible that we
can integrate them in time and can provide snapshot builds.

I plan to integrate the first finished translations next week.

Translations that will be finished later will be included in a potential
language update release. Important is the finished UI translation. But a
complete help translation is appreciated as well ;-) but no release
stopper from my point of view because we had released languages where
the help is still English only.

Further discussion on the translation deadline and further proceeding on
 the l10n list.

To highlight what this means. For AOO 3.4.1 we have released

Arabic, Asturian, Czech, Danish, German, English (United Kingdom)
(100%), Spanish (100%), Basque, Finnish, French (100%), Scottish Gaelic,
Galician, Hungarian (100%), Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Norwegian
Bokmal, Dutch (100%), Polish, Portugese Brazil (UI 100%), Russian (UI
100%), Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan)

The percentage in the bracket shows the state for AOO 4.0!

Some of them are already finished or have at least a complete UI.

I am not 100% sure but I am currently planning to release only the
languages where the UI is 100%.

Arabic for example is critical because we have not seen an active
translation community for 3.4.1 and still don't see anything here.

I hope for all the other languages we will see some activities over the
next 2 weeks. Otherwise they will be postponed to a potential language
update release.

I have many other things to do on the way to the release. Please join me
by raising awareness for the outstanding translations or help find
volunteers.

possible tasks exist a lot, not to count all the needed bug fixes.

Reading the comments from the survey I get exactly the opposite
impression, that the flat logo is seen as more modern, clean and
attractive than the 3D ray-traced style. I mean comments like these
for logo #34 (Chris's one):

Sometimes, the simplest solution is the best one.
Simple, straightforward, all in the continuity (which may refer to

The current logo is not really eligible since we have no vector source
for it. It was a quick hack for AOO 3.4.0 using a composited bitmap.
But it doesn't work with the full range of uses we need the logo for.

Of course if anyone wants to make an vector version of the old logo,
using a free font, etc., then we can certainly consider it. That was
always a possibility, though it didn't seen to interest any designer.

with the parent process of:
[long path]\build.pl --all --html -P -- -P

(all I need to clean up is to kill the cl process, and the others
eventually exit)

(and it's cleaned up now)

As nobody else showed up I am volunteering to take care for our
Windows buildbots. Andrew, can you support me to get the corresponding
karma to have direct access to the machine(s) hosting our Windows
buildbots?

I'll look for you coming online, and we can do that over IRC

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Oliver.

 Hello,

Raphael had proposed to coordinate the work on the German website in the
wiki, and we've discussed on the users...@openoffice.apache.org list.

But where, in the hierarchy of the wiki (see left on the page
 https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Wiki+Home), I should to
 insert a page?

 Possibly:
 Project Planning-Native Language Projects-Website(de)?

 or:
 Project Planning-Site-Dev-Plan-Website(de)?

 or where else?

I'm not 100% sure here, where we should put the organization stuff for the
de community. We have a old orga corner on the Mediawiki. But as I know we
 decided the following:

 Media Wiki: User content
 cwikiUSERS: for community coordination
 cwikiDEV: not realy used now

That is how we did it from the start of the podling, before the Mwiki
was migrated. We didn't have a choice, really. But of course, under
Sun/Oracle we used only MWiki. And now that Jan has stabilized MWiki
we could return to doing everything there if we wanted.

One factor might be this: there are probably links from 3rd party
German websites and mailing list archives pointing to the Mwiki, so it
might be good to start putting updated project content there, so new
visitors will see the current activity.

So from this point of view, the right place would be the cwiki. BUT the
cwiki has no language support. I personaly would prefer the cwiki over the
MW for orga work. It's easyer to use, and so we stay consistent.

That would work as well, in which case we might want to add a link
from the de MWiki page to the CWiki pages.
