Exactly. We will need a new vote here. Thank you everybody for how this
issue has been handled. I think that Rob's blog post captures very
nicely the values and strengths of this community.

I disagree here, we should take into account who does the work.

The from ASF perspective important src release is available since
yesterday evening and I planned to start the vote yesterday but the mail
didn't left my mail program :-(. Everybody who is interested, able or
willing to test this src release can do that since yesterday. No need to
wait on an official vote start.

Binaries for Mac and Windows are also available. Only by a typo in my
script the language packs are still in the process.

I plan to start the vote now until late Friday afternoon (5:00pm UTC+2),
that I am able to prepare everything before I will be away for some days.

If that is not ok for some people please let me know and I will skip my
plan. This has nothing to do with less quality but simply with pragmatism.

[VOTE]: Release OpenOffice 4.0 (RC2)

2013-07-17 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
Hi all,

this is a call for vote on releasing the following release candidate
(RC2 revision 1503704) as Apache OpenOffice 4.0. This will be an
important release for Apache OpenOffice with bigger visible UI changes.
It is a key milestone to continue the success of OpenOffice.

This release candidate provides the following important changes compared
to former OpenOffice releases:

(1) a major UI change/improvement by introducing a new sidebar concept
where the idea is the comes from IBM's Symphony. It's the combination of
reimplementing a complete new framework for sidebars and merging the
existing sidebar in impress and code of various content panels from the
Symphony grant in OpenOffice.

(2) 190 fixes from Symphony are merged and integrated, mainly
interoperability issues

(3) 600 defects are fixed

(4) many more features and improvements are integrated

For a detailed feature overview please see the release notes under
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.0+Release+Notes.
But keep in mind that the release notes are not yet final and will be
updated and polished ...

The release candidate artifacts (source release, as well as binary
releases for 23 languages) and further information how to verify and
review Apache OpenOffice 4.0 can be found on the following wiki page:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds#DevelopmentSnapshotBuilds-AOOSnapshot

The related and updated RAT scan for this RC can be found under
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/aoo-4.0.0_rat/aoo-4.0.0_rat-output.html

The RC is based on the release branch AOO400, revision 1503704!

Please vote on releasing this package as Apache OpenOffice 4.0.

The vote starts now and will be open until:

   UTC 3:00pm on Friday, 19 July: 2013-07-19 3:00 UTC.

But we invite all people to vote (non binding) on this RC. We would like
to provide a release that is supported by the majority of our project
members.

This is OK with me. What is important is that we reset the feedback we
had on the previous RC and that we only count votes on the new RC (RC2
as you called it in the new thread you started).

It must be clear what we are voting upon, and indeed sources for RC2

On this list our prime interest is Apache OpenOffce and the ecosystem
around it, we welcome everybody who wants to use and/or extent the
ecosystem (meaning not only the code, but also documentation, QA etc). If

Missing dictionaries on Extension website [Was Re: New version of Spanish dictionaries]

2013-07-17 Thread Ricardo Berlasso
There is a rather serious problem: Almost all the Spanish dictionaries are
missing from the extension repository. The links on this list

http://forum.openoffice.org/es/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5709#p5709

that used to be a reference for the localized dictionaries gives page not
found.

On the extensions site there are only three custom dictionaries listed
under Spanish and other two under Español, all of them really old and
unmaintained. What happened with the 21 localized dictionaries? It seems
that all the extensions from Recursos lingüísticos abiertos disappeared!

2013/7/17 Ricardo Palomares rpm_n...@lavabit.com

 Hi,

My name is Ricardo Palomares and I'm part of the currently active team
of RLA-ES [1], the project to maintain a free spelling dictionary of
Spanish in different variants. It's has been a long time since our
last release 0.6, in April 2012. I remember having seen the dictionary
in OO.org extensions catalog, but I can't find it. Could it be that a
purge has been done to remove unowned/obsolete extensions?

We have the new 0.7 version available for downloading [2] and we were
told around a year ago that we should use this mailing list in
order to get OpenOffice.org Spanish builds to ship the dictionaries. I
hope our information is still good.

Since Santiago Bosio, the founder of RLA-ES, has been very busy in the
last year, any pointer to the right procedures for this kind of
 updates will be welcome.

 TIA

Re: Broken download link

2013-07-17 Thread Dave Fisher
Hi,

Do you mean the download link in English at the top? This will work.

Or, is there one in Hebrew in the middle to a version 3.2? If so, then we need
some help from the Hebrew speaking community as the content on this page is
still legacy from 3 to 4 years ago and this project does not maintain those
mirrors.

td align=right width=100% class=txt
a class=link
href=http://mirror.isoc.org.il/pub/openoffice/3.0.0/win32/OOo_3.0.0_he_install_win32_20090327.exe;
קובץ התקנה של אופן אופיס
/a/td

Note 3.0.0 is a very old version probably from the time that OpenOffice.org was
part of Sun Microsystems.

Here at the Apache Software Foundation we are all volunteers. We about to
release 4.0.

It would be good to get cooperation from the folks who are running
www.openoffice.org.il - this group is not part of the project and we would like
to bring them in.

Dave

Ron --

I think the link you are referring to is:

http://mirror.isoc.org.il/pub/openoffice/3.0.0/win32/OOo_3.0.0_he_install_win32_20090327.exe

This is a rather old version of OpenOffice, and obviously this link
shouldbe changed. It seems from this site, the most recent Hebrew
translations can be obtained from the following link:

http://mirror.isoc.org.il/pub/openoffice.org/localized/he/3.3.0/

Version 3.3 seems to be the last Hebrew version of OpenOffice. However, we
don't particularly recommend installing it due to security concerns.

We would love to have more community involvement to continue our Hebrew
version. We could use help with the web site and translations for the
product, Apache OpenOffice, itself.

Please see our Native Language page:

http://openoffice.apache.org/native-lang.html

if you would be interested in product UI translation efforts, or

Get Involved:

http://openoffice.apache.org/get-involved.html

for getting involved with the project generally.

Finally, please see:

http://www.openoffice.org/download/other.html

for Apache OpenOffice current download offerings.

Thank you for your interest in Apache OpenOffice.

No. I know that path, but all Spanish dictionaries that used to be on the

shipping by default on our releases

It seems due to the update of the site. After the update, Extension

I tried to specify Extension name to one of my extension, but it would not work

OK. I verified the hashes and signatures.

However, we should clarify which public keys to use. Right now we
 say four different things:

 1) We have a KEYS file in the dist/incubator directory:
 http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/KEYS

 2) Your RC page points this file, which doesn't exist:
 https://people.apache.org/keys/group/ooo.asc

 3) Your RC page also points to this file, which is not really suitable
since it is in your personal directory:
 http://people.apache.org/~jsc/developer-snapshots/aoo.KEYS

 4) The download page instructions
 (http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums/3.4.1_checksums.html#howto)
points to this file, which does exist:
 https://people.apache.org/keys/group/openoffice.asc

I thought the convention was to put a KEYS file into the root of the
project's dist directory. If so we need to remember to copy it over
into our TLP directory for AOO 4.0.

yes and there is already one that I have copied from the incubator. I will
clean this mess up tomorrow ;-)

It is possible. However I don't like to have an exception for users of
platform X. This would make the index.html more unreadable than it is
already.

Therefore I've created a general text and link to the release notes (of
course, it's still intermediate):

1) Directly in the main green box.
2) In a second sub-green box.

Please have a look and tell what you think. IMHO 1) is better.

Marcus

1) is better.

I like 1 better, too. But it still looks too prominent. We don't want to
scare our users (when only a minority will run into this problem). Maybe
an explanation in the release notes is enough.

I've decreased the font size a bit. And remember only 1) or 2) will
survive at the end. Currently it's duplicated which maybe supports the
too prominent look feel.

@Andre, all:
What do you think: Keep or leave? I just need to know this how to handle
the final webpage.

Thanks

Marcus

maybe change wording to Click here for known installation issues

I know this is going to the Release Notes page...but maybe we should
focus
on highlighting installation.

I just edited Release Notes to duplicate the Mac OS X info in the
Upgrading/Installing section. Left it in Known Issues as well.

Great thanks.

Nothing wrong with the dictionary, of course, that's one of the missing
ones. But compare the link you provided with the original one for the same
dictionary before the site migration:

http://extensions.openoffice.org/project/es_AR-dicts

It seems *all* the addresses changed on the site upgrade and now it's a
small challenge to find them again. In fact, I started this thread after
someone from the Recursos Lingüísticos project said on l10n list he
cannot find their own extensions to update to the last dictionary version!

It seems the identifier for the extension is now the extension title
