I've downloaded and installed both the yesterday's italian and english versions
(1579169) from here
http://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/#w7ia2

I'm not sure whether that snapshot is being built from the 410 branch
(which should be stable) or the trunk (which may have issues).

Hello Jacopo,
indeed the "Windows ia2 Branch Install Packages" are outdated and not
available in Italian anyway (they are the last two files listed in the
page, and that section is a leftover from when ia2 was still a
development branch; it was integrated several months ago).

The daily builds come from our (unstable) trunk and as Rob explained
they are "bleeding edge" and do not reflect what will appear in 4.1.0.

Development builds from the AOO410 branch can be found at
http://www.openoffice.org/download/ (right column, Additional
Resources). Chances are that these are the same builds you actually
downloaded, even if you meant to download the ia2 builds. So if you
found severe issues in them, we are certainly interested in knowing
more. They reflect quite closely what we expect to release as version 4.1.0.

Are you saying that you can't even launch OpenOffice the first time? Are
you installing over an existing user profile? See
http://s.apache.org/profilo for some tips on how to start with a clean
profile, on an Italian version of Windows.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Or maybe a disclaimer in the voting thread email?

Andrew's comments show clearly that these editors do not care to be
careful or factual, or even read those disclaimers, unfortunately.

We can be successful only if we manage to block their downloads. They
link to our binaries hosted on SourceForge (which is fine). Just
thinking loud, but if it was possible (on the Sourceforge side) to deny
all download requests that do not come from the openoffice.org or the
sourceforge.net domains, then the project would effectively be in
control. The embargo could be lifted just after the release.

For me this sounds like a great idea.

Maybe we should start with denying all download requests that some from
these bad websites.

@Roberto:
Can you tell us if this possible? If yes, is it much effort for you?

Do you see a chance to get this implemented? I think it could help to
stop some bad websites to do bad things with our software.

@Roberto:
Maybe you haven't seen this up to now.

It would be great if you can tell us if it's possible to exclude some
domains / IP addresses from downloading our software?

Then we can exclude requester that we don't want (e.g., malware
"distributors").

Also in time frames with Beta or RC releases it can help us to steer who
is able and when it is possible to download OpenOffice like we want to
see until the real release date is reached.

Thanks

Marcus

Sure, sites could still copy all binaries being voted upon and offer
them locally, but this would require a more significant effort. on their
side.

And more HDD space and more own bandwith - which is also not what they
want.

Ok, the 72h period is up and we reached (lazy) consensus on it. The
incubator/ooo tree has the read-only flag on though so it cannot be
removed yet. If anyone has the karma to make it writable again please do

This is not from Apache OpenOffice. It is coming from SourceForge - our
friends hosting our installation packages for the download.

We should ask Roberto about such postings.
It also contains wrong information:
AOO 4.0.1 had been released at 2013-10-01 - see

The link 'DownloadLatest Version' works for me --> download of
corresponding AOO 4.0.1 for my system and language.
